Per la Nitobe-simpozio de internaciaj organizaĵoj pri "Lingvo por Internacia Paco kaj Demokratio", ni malfermis UK-n al influpovaj ne-esperantistoj, altirante atenton de interŝtataj organizaĵoj kaj internacie konataj fakuloj pri lingva politiko. | 1966 was a truly fruitful year. The 81st World Esperanto Congress in Prague, which brought together some 3000 Esperantists and was blessed by messages of greetings from i.a. La membronombro de Societo Zamenhof konservis la altan nivelon, kiun ĝi atingis en 1995. Nia junularo registris rekordojn: la abonantaro de Kontakto superis 2000 kaj la Patronoj de TEJO unuafoje nombris pli ol 100. | The World Esperanto Association (UEA) has welcomed to its ranks two new national associations: the Vietnamese and the Indian. For the tenth consecutive year, the number of individual members of UEA has been more than 7000. The number of members of the Zamenhof Society has kept the high level it reached in 1995. Our youth membership set records: the number of subscribers to Kontakto passed 2000 and the Patrons of the World Esperantist Youth Organization (TEJO) numbered more than 100 for the first time. |

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights bans discrimination on the basis of i.a. language. | Tiu alvoko donas la direkton al nia agado en la nova jaro. En februaro UEA ekaktivos en Novjorko por persvadi Unuiĝintajn Naciojn diskuti la demandon de internacia helplingvo. En aprilo ni lanĉos similan pledon ĉe membroj de la Eŭropa Parlamento. La plej praktika kaj populare akceptebla valoro de Esperanto estas ĝia utilo por la lernado de fremdaj lingvoj. Por interŝanĝi spertojn kaj pli bone kunordigi niajn klopodojn por pruvi la propedeŭtikan valoron de Esperanto, UEA kunlabore kun ILEI planas okazigi specialan seminarion kadre de la 82-a UK en Adelajdo. Ni klopodos okazigi similan diskuton ankaŭ en Eŭropo. | This summons shows the direction for our activity in the new year. In February UEA will begin action in New York to persuade the United Nations to discuss the question of an international auxiliary language. In April we will launch a similar plea to members of the European Parliament. The most practical and popularly acceptable value of Esperanto is its use in the learning of foreign languages. To exchange experiences and better coordinate our procedures for proving the propaedeutic value of Esperanto, UEA in coooperation with the International League of Teachers of Esperanto (ILEI) plans to hold a special seminar within the 82d World Esperanto Congress in Adelaide. We will take steps to hold a similar discussion in Europe, as well. |
| Por ke tiuj strebadoj estu efikaj, necesas ĝenerala plivigliĝo kaj aktiviĝo de nia tuta movado. Necesas levi ĝian idean kaj organizan nivelon. Tiucele la Komitato de UEA komisiis grupon da aktivuloj verki bazan dokumenton pri "Kampanjo 2000 por Nova Internacia Lingva Ordo". La Komitato diskutos ĝin en sia kunsido en Adelajdo. Nura decido de la Komitato tamen ne plivigligos la movadon. Necesos propra iniciatemo de ĉiu klubo kaj asocio kaj de ĉiu unuopulo. Sen tio ankaŭ klopodoj ĉe UN, EU kaj aliloke restos vanaj. | To ensure that our strivings are effective, our entire movement in general needs to become more vigorous and active. We need to raise the level of its ideas and organization. To that end the Comittee of UEA has commissioned a group of activists to write a basic document on "Campaign 2000 for a New International Language Order." The Committee will discuss this during their meeting in Adelaide. But a simple decision of the Committee will not raise the movement's level of vigor. Every club and association, every individual, will have to depend on its own initiative. Failing that, our work at the UN, the EU and elsewhere will be in vain. |
| Okaze de la novjaro mi speciale apelacias por subteno al TEJO, nia estonteco, kiu en 1996 atingis fierindajn sukcesojn: ĝi elektiĝis al la Gvida Konsilio de la Junulara Fako de Konsilio de Eŭropo, TEJO-ano fariĝis prezidanto de la Eŭropa Kunordiga Buroo de Junularaj Organizoj kaj sep TEJO-anoj ĉeestis en la Junulara Forumo de UN. Tia laboro meritas subtenon. Do, fariĝu ankaŭ vi Patrono de TEJO aŭ abonu al Kontakto!
