Feliĉaj tiuj por kiuj ĝi estis la unua UK, ĉar al ili tiu sperto certe estis aparte emocimova! | On the scales of the activity in 1998, the 83rd World Congress in Montpellier, the largest Esperantist get-together since the Anniversary Year 1987, is outstanding. This World Congress, greeted by, among others, the UN Secretary-General, was also impressive for the abundance of its program. Those for whom it was the first World Congress may be happy, because for them this experience was certainly especially moving! |
| En 1998 mi precipe ĝojis pro la daŭre kreskanta tendenco al kunlaboro kaj al flankenigo de malnovaj diferencoj kaj kontraŭecoj. En Montpeliero tio konkretiĝis en la unua Strategia Forumo de la Esperanto-Komunumo. Tiu libera formo de kunlaboro denove kolektiĝos en Berlino. Ĝi celas plifortigi la senton de kunaparteno de la partoprenantoj kaj en tiu spirito disponigi ŝancon por interŝanĝo de ideoj. Ni ne revas trovi en ĝi la Ŝtonon de la Saĝuloj. Mi tamen fidas ke ĉiu ricevos novajn impulsojn por sia agado kaj ke precipe profitos la kunlaboro trans la limoj kiuj ĝis nun dividis nin. | In 1998 I was especially happy with the continually growing trend toward cooperation and the putting aside of old differences and oppositions. In Montpellier this took on concrete form in the first Strategic Forum of the Esperanto Community. This free form of cooperation will again gather in Berlin. Its aim is to strengthen the feeling of co-belonging of the participants and, in this spirance, to make a chance for exchange of ideas available. We don't dream of finding the Philosopher's Stone in it. But I am confident that every will gain new impulses for his activity and that the cooperation across the boundaries that have divided us up to now will especially profit. |
| Rimarkinda ekzemplo pri la nova evoluo estas la proksimiĝo inter Universala Esperanto-Asocio kaj Sennacieca Asocio Tutmonda. Estante membro de ambaŭ, mi estas aparte feliĉa pri ĝi. Efektive ĉiuj aplaŭdis tiun evoluon, kiu estas des pli signifa, ĉar UEA kaj SAT estas la ĉefaj fadenoj ĉirkaŭ kiuj teksiĝis la historio de nia movado. Ambaŭ konstatis ke ili fakte ne estas rivaloj kaj ke el ilia kunlaboro profitos ne nur ili mem sed la tuta afero de Esperanto. Laŭ ideo de SAT ili jam ekpreparis informkampanjon ĉe pac-organizaĵoj kiel sian unuan komunan projekton. | A remarkable example of the new evolution is the closing of the gap between the Universala Esperanto-Asocio and the Sennacieca Asocio Tutmonda. As a member of both, I am especially happy about this. All have applauded this development, which is even more meaningful because UEA and SAT are the main threads around which the history of our movement is woven. Both determined that they were, in fact, not rivals, and that not only they but all of Esperanto would profit from their cooperation. Based on an idea of SAT they have already begun to prepare an informational campaign for peace organizations as their first common project. |
| En sia 90-a datreveno UEA okazigis kune kun la oficejo de la Alta Komisiito de UN pri Homaj Rajtoj seminarion pri la lingva dimensio de la homaj rajtoj, tiel omaĝante ankaŭ la 50-jariĝon de la Universala Deklaracio pri Homaj Rajtoj. Estis grave ke sine de la homrajta organismo de UN ni povis atentigi pri la lingvaj rajtoj, kiujn oni daŭre ignoras kaj bagateligas. Kun la sama celo -- konsciigi pri ne-konsciata problemo kaj ĝia eĉ malpli konsciata solvo -- UEA organizos en Berlino la duan Nitobé-simpozion pri "Tutmondiĝo kaj lingva diverseco". | For its 90th anniversary UEA held, in company with the office of the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights, a seminar on the linguistic dimension of human rights, in this way also paying homage to the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It was important for us, in the bosom of a human rights organism, to be able to point out linguistic rights, which continue to be ignored or minimized. With the same purpose -- encouraging recognition of an unrecognized problem and its even less recognized solution -- UEA will organize in Berlin the second Nitobé Symposium on "Globalization and Linguistic Diversity". |
| Mia altestimata antaŭulo, prof. Lee Chong-Yeong, iniciatis Kampanjon 2000. La pozitivaj evoluoj, kiujn ni nun notas, estas ĝia frukto. Kun rekorde vigla partopreno la elektado de komitatanoj B de UEA en 1998 fakte fariĝis referendumo, en kiu la membroj de UEA plene apogis tiun iniciaton. Tamen, Kampanjo 2000 ne estas kampanjo de UEA sola. Ĝi estas celita por nia tuta komunumo, kaj mi tre ĝojas ke tiu invito al agado vere estis akceptita. La nova elano inter ni estas la plej granda atingo de Kampanjo 2000. | My very respected predecessor, Prof. Lee Chong-Yeong, initiated Campaign 2000. The positive developments that we now note are its fruits. With a record vigorous participation, the election of UEA Committee members in category B in 1998 became, in fact, a referendum in which UEA's members fully supported that initiative. But Campaign 2000 is not a campaign of UEA alone. It is aimed at our entire communited, and I deeply rejoice that this invitation to action was truly accepted. The new elan among us is the greatest attainment of Campaign 2000. |
