The year 2007 is Esperanto-teaching year for the Liaoning Provincial Esperanto Association (LEA), China. Shenyang University has actively reacted to this initiative. On March 1, 2007, the first day of the new semester, 600 students entered the four Esperanto courses held by the university, and until now no one has dropped this elective object of study. This number is the highest among those universities in the province which have currently introduced Esperanto, and is truly a new record. The students will gain two credits if they succeed in passing the final exam. The textbook used is Esperanto Course in the New Century compiled by Prof. Liu Zhengkun and Prof. Song Yusheng.
In congratulating Shenyang University we are very happy and satisfied. The first Esperanto course for teachers of foreign languages in the colleges of the province of Liaoning is already flowering, because Prof. Wang Wenyu and Docent Pan Chengbo, teachers of the four courses, are graduates of the course. Thanks are owed to Mr. Zhang Ziming, professor of the university and vice-president of the Liaoning Provincial Teaching Institute of Foreignh Languages for College and of the Liaoning Esperanto Association for all his work. Last year he made a speciall 30-minute talk about Esperanto teaching in the working conference about teaching of foreign languages in the province, and he presided over the first Esperanto Seminar of Colleges in the province.
